| it's been awhile since i've plugged into a book, that made me nose-dive into the pages. this book has done that. i just love books that require a better understanding of different cultures, history and thought-provoking issues. this book is taking me into uncharted territories of the congo/zaire and political turmoil in africa. another book that is captivating me is, the autobiography of chuck yeager. it's actually my son's, but i'm reading it as well, so i can pop quiz him on comprehension. wink. it is just a really good book.... about his active role in ww2 and being on the run from germany and italy. on a bike, no less. so, what are you reading? smile, wink, nod. |

I enjoyed reading The Poisonwood Bible so much that when I read the last page I was disappointed there wasn't more.

Sounds like a very good book! I am reading the last book in The Four Lindas series, by Melody Carlson. It's called Here's to Friends. She is probably one of my favorite authors.
Excellent lessons in history! My best friend from high school spent about 15 years in Zaire as a missionary, in some of the locations mentioned in the book. The things that she and her family had to deal with were easier to understand when I knew the history of the years preceding their arrival; things that led up to the civil war that caused them to have to flee from Zaire, eventually. Why is history so hard to learn from history books, but so easy from books like this? Must say, though, when reading fiction as history, ALWAYS verify!!!
