eat cheap!

Cheap and healthy!

I'm not sure what's up with Kroger's...but I can almost always find cheap- close-to the-expiration date, bags of salad. Like this one...

Then, if you have a very generous friend like SARAH (see my sidebar-Teach a Fish), who gives you lots of bags of almost-expired bread... and you make 3 loaded cookie trays of awesome smelling, homemade croutons...

And, you toss everything together in a pretty vintage pie plate...with leftover baked chicken, tomatoes, cheese and any other salad jewels you like....
You can eat cheap.
Well, I figured I fed my family for under .40 cents a person. It was good. It was healthy. It had much eye-appeal on this cold/damp Friday night! And...... the lo-cal dinner...left room for dessert!
So, THANK YOU SARAH...the bread was put to good use! smile, wink, nod!

I love getting the marked down stuff at Kroger. Check the meat section too! If I find a good deal there, I may buy all of it and stock the freezer.
